MP3 of the Day #514: Orbital

By on Friday, 30th March 2012 at 10:00 am

By now you’re probably sick of the Orbital song ‘New France’ featuring Zola Jesus that, frankly, didn’t benefit all that much from Nika Danilova’s vocals. Enter L-Vis 1990‘s ‘rewound’ mix of the song. Better than the original? Decide by listening to and downloading the freewheeling remix below.

‘Wonky’, Orbital’s long-awaited return to the album scene, comes out next week.

Live Gig Video: Zola Jesus performs at Electronic Beats Festival

Nikita Danilova (better known by her stage name Zola Jesus) performed last month at the Electronic Beats Festival in Warsaw, Poland, and below is a clip of her performance this year along with a short interview, along with another video with ‘Collapse, ‘Seekir’ and ‘Vessel’ from her 2011 debut ‘Conatus’. (Luke’s review of the album is here, and here is his interview with Nikita at Field Day 2011.)

Other acts at the festival included Groove Armada (who I assume was doing a DJ set, because I thought they said they weren’t touring anymore?) and the Drums (who don’t really make sense at an electronic event, do they?).

Video of the Moment #594: Zola Jesus

Zola Jesus‘s new video for ‘Vessel’ is a shimmery delight. Watch it below. The press release describes it like this:

In ‘Vessel’, science fiction, wave phenomena, and the abstracted metamorphosis of the moth life cycle are visually manifested in the surreal landscapes of underground mineral caves and icy, remote dunes. Themes of duality and transformation weave throughout, with Nika’s own voice revealed as vibrational patterns in water through the microscopic observation of Cymatics.
