The Sherlocks / September 2017 UK Tour

By on Monday, 8th May 2017 at 9:00 am

Editor’s note: Ahead of their debut album ‘Live for the Moment’, I noticed that since this original post in May, they’ve added shows in Manchester (bumping a previously announced date in Nottingham forward a day) and Sheffield (well duh, makes sense), so I’ve added them to the list of dates below.

Sheffield alt-rock quartet The Sherlocks have made plans to follow up their busy summer festival schedule with a headline tour of the UK in September. The band’s debut LP ‘Live for the Moment’ is due out on the 18th of August and features the single ‘Chasing Shadows’. At the bottom of the page, below the tour date listing, you’ll find the promo video for ‘Chasing Shadows’, which was filmed at live gigs in Manchester and Sheffield earlier this year.

Tickets for the following shows are available now. You can find a complete list of The Sherlocks’ upcoming live dates, including festival appearances, on their official Web site. TGTF’s past coverage of The Sherlocks is right back here.

Thursday 14th September 2017 – Newcastle University
Friday 15th September 2017 – Manchester Academy (date added after original post)
Saturday 16th September 2017 – Nottingham Rock City (moved forward from Friday the 15th)
Tuesday 19th September 2017 – Glasgow ABC
Wednesday 20th September 2017 – Bristol SWX
Thursday 21st September 2017 – Southampton 1865
Friday 22nd September 2017 – London Heaven
Saturday 23rd September 2017 – Sheffield Academy (date added after original post)

WIN / Tickets to see Mew in May in Manchester -OR- London

By on Monday, 24th April 2017 at 11:00 am

Danish indie favourites Mew have going for an incredible 2 decades. Twenty years! They have a brand new album out on Friday on PIAS, ‘Visuals’, which they’re previewing with the hauntingly beautiful track ‘Carry Me to Safety’, streaming just below this paragraph. If you’re a Mew die-hard – and probably too even if you’re a fair weather fan of theirs – you know they don’t tour all that often, and so the fact that they’ve got three shows in England next month to support the record is good news. Even better news? We’ve got a pair each to the Manchester and London stops on their gig calendar, and we want to give them to two lucky readers. How do you win them? Glad you asked…

You’ll need to fill out the contest form below completely. We need to know your name, email address and which show you want to win tickets for, Manchester or London. Then answer this question correctly: what is the name of Mew’s lead singer? To be eligible for this contest, you’ll also need to be following us @tgtf on Twitter, so please provide your own Twitter handle too. As we’re expecting a lot of entries to this contest, you can increase your chances of winning by reTweeting a Tweet that will be coming out on our Twitter tomorrow, Tuesday 25 April. It will have the hashtag #TGTFwinMew and reTweeting that Tweet will count as an additional entry.

Be sure to enter before the contest closes on Thursday, the 27th of April, at noon BST. These tickets will be at will call, so therefore are nontransferrable. I’ll select a winner at random for each show out of all the correct entries received. Good luck to all! If you’d rather buy tickets to one of the three shows Mew will be performing in England, the shows are all listed below.

Sunday 21st May 2017 – Bristol Trinity
Monday 22nd May 2017 – Manchester Ritz
Tuesday 23rd May 2017 – London Shepherds Bush Empire

This contest is now closed.

Public Service Broadcasting / October 2017 UK Tour

By on Wednesday, 19th April 2017 at 8:00 am

In case you’ve been living under a rock, a few weeks ago Public Service Broadcasting announced details on their third album, ‘Every Valley’, which will chronicle the coal mining industry in South Wales. The first taster from the album, ‘Progress’, is a definite nod to Kraftwerk instrumentally, and it features the vocals of Camera Obscura‘s Traceyanne Campbell, only the second PSB track to feature a guest vocalist. (Watch the video for the song featured as a past Video of the Moment here.) The new album will also feature James Dean Bradfield, of course famous from being a member of the iconic Welsh rock band Manic Street Preachers.

Naturally, to promote the new record and to ease J. Willgoose Esq. and co.’s itchy feet, our favourite history nerds have announced a massive UK tour for October 2017. Fittingly, their journey begins on the 13th of October in Cardiff. Tickets go on general sale this Friday, the 21st of April, at 9 AM; fans on their mailing list will have early access to tickets starting today at 9 AM.To read more on TGTF on Public Service Broadcasting, go here.

Chain of Flowers / April and May 2017 English Tour

By on Monday, 3rd April 2017 at 9:00 am

Following their second visit to America and appearances at SXSW 2017 in mid-March, Cardiff post-punks Chain of Flowers are set to tour England in late April. Being the good Welsh ambassador that he is, the legend that is Huw Stephens interviewed several of the Welsh acts in Austin during the week of SXSW including Chain of Flowers. You can listen to the broadcast for the next 2 weeks on Radio Wales through here. During his chat with frontman Josh Smith on Thursday at the British Music Embassy, they discuss the slight incongruity that this tour only includes English dates. No matter; I reckon they’ll be back playing shows on American shores soon enough. Tickets to the following shows are on sale now. My review of their Thursday afternoon show can be read here; Carrie also caught them at the Music for Listeners afternon showcase at El Sapo, so her review of that is forthcoming. For more on Chain of Flowers on TGTF, follow this link.
