Ah, summer! For many people, summer is for sunshine and holidays at the beach, but for us music lovers, summer is festival season. Here at TGTF, June has been a month of festival previews, new album releases and looking ahead to our favourite artists’ autumn tour dates. If you haven’t been following along, we’ve run previews this month of LeeFest 2017Cambridge Folk Festival and, of course, the end-of-summer Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Looking beyond festival season, our recent tour announcements have included new music from Isaac Gracie, Nick Mulvey, The Dears and Barns Courtney. And in keeping with our ongoing focus on feminism, we’ve featured new songs from female artists Lissie, Lucy Rose, Julia Jacklin, Ibeyi, Marika Hackman and Jealous of the Birds, to name only a few.

June 2017 also marks the one-year anniversary of our monthly playlist feature! If you’re not already following our monthly playlists, you can help us celebrate the occasion by subscribing to our TGTF Spotify account. Just plug “spotify:user:tgtftunes” (no quotes) into the search bar and click the Follow button. Happy listening!

TGTF Spotify Playlist: May 2017

After our lengthy April playlist, which was full to the brim with music from SXSW 2017 showcasing artists, May might seem to be a lean month around TGTF. We’ve bounced back with several new releases and live performance videos, and even though we took last week off, our May 2017 playlist is teeming with the latest tunes from emerging artists and old favourites alike. This month, we revisited familiar names like Ghostpoet, Fleet Foxes, To Kill a King, Sivu and Sweet Baboo. We also took a first look at several up-and-coming artists, including soul-pop singer Chess Galea and indie pop band Ivy Nations, as well as giving an in-depth listen to Northern Irish singer/songwriter Joshua Burnside.

If you’re not already following our monthly playlists, this month is a good time to ease your way in without making a lengthy time commitment. And if you like what you hear, you can peruse our previous playlists, all the way back to June 2016. You can subscribe to the TGTF Spotify account by plugging “spotify:user:tgtftunes” (no quotes) into the search bar and clicking the Follow button. Don’t forget to share with a fellow music lover!

If you’ve been following along with TGTF recently, you’ll already know that we spent most of March and much of April completely absorbed in all the music from SXSW 2017. Now that our trip to Austin is done and dusted, we’ve resumed our regularly scheduled programming, and that includes our monthly Spotify playlist—hurrah!

This month’s playlist naturally comprises a large number of showcasing artists from SXSW, as we’ve just wrapped up our festival and conference coverage. (You can read it all in one convenient place right through here.) But we’ve also been catching up with artists who didn’t play at SXSW this year, and our Spotify list features new music from Maximo Park, alt-J and Royal Blood, among many, many others. With 64 songs and 4 hours worth of tunes to choose from, you’re sure to hear something you love in our April 2017 list.

If you haven’t been following our monthly playlists, it’s not too late to start! Our playlists are a quick way to catch up on all the latest tunes and a good place to begin curating your own spring and summer playlists. You can subscribe to the TGTF Spotify account by plugging “spotify:user:tgtftunes” (no quotes) into the search bar and clicking the Follow button. Happy listening!

SXSW 2017 X Valentine’s Day Spotify Playlist

Oh dear. It’s Valentine’s Day again, and in the last few days, I’ve been wracking my brain for ideas to do something special on TGTF to commemorate it. Let’s face it, we need more love in this world right now, am I right? Regardless of which side of the many fences possible there are in the romance department – single, in a relationship, happy in love, unhappy and not in love, etc. – I hope everyone can find something to enjoy in this special Valentine’s Day playlist with a special twist.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the playlist is populated with UK and Irish acts scheduled to perform at SXSW 2017 next month. The expression of love and indeed, love lost, can vary from artist to artist, so you’ll find all sorts of examples of Cupid’s bow hitting its mark and sometimes when it doesn’t, offered up in softer ballads to louder declarations.
