Live Gig Video: Blaenavon share New York City tour diary set to new single ‘Orthodox Man’

By on Wednesday, 18th January 2017 at 4:00 pm

Blaenavon shared with us some good news last autumn. The East Hampshire trio who have been building on well-deserved live hype announced that they had signed to Canvasback / Atlantic Records. To usher in 2017, they have even more good news! Their debut album,’That’s Your Lot’, will be out on the 7th of April.

To celebrate this great news, they’ve shared a travel diary of sorts by director Francesca Consarino of their time last autumn in New York City, where they played two packed out shows to new, adoring American fans. It’s set to ‘Orthodox Man’, the first single announced from the upcoming LP out this spring. Watch the video below. Live Gig Video: Colm Mac Con Iomaire
performs ‘Bláth’ (Flower) at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City

By on Thursday, 5th November 2015 at 4:00 pm

Back in September, accomplished Irish fiddler from Dublin Colm Mac Con Iomaire played three sold out shows in New York City at Rockwood Music Hall. Luckily for those of us who weren’t able to be there, Shane G. Mahon was present to chronicle Colm’s time in the Big Apple with this behind the scenes tour video from his visit to our shores 2 months ago. It’s touching to hear such an evocatively beautiful violin performance soundtrack clips of Mac Con Iomaire performing alongside a piano player, as well as shots of New York by day and by night. Watch the stirring live video below.

We got to know Mac Con Iomaire in Austin at SXSW 2015 this year. He played the full Irish breakfast on the Friday of this year’s festival, where Carrie interviewed him. He has three live dates in the UK and Ireland coming up:

Wednesday 11th November 2015 – London St. Pancras Old Church
Wednesday 9th December 2015 – Belfast Empire Music Hall
Thursday 17th December 2015 – Dublin Vicar Street (with special guest Lisa O’Neill)

Live Gig Video: clip of Amy Winehouse singing ‘Back to Black’ a capella in the studio with Mark Ronson

By on Thursday, 9th July 2015 at 4:00 pm

Making waves around the world right now is Amy, the new documentary about the late, great and troubled Amy Winehouse. The film is out now and while several clips from the documentary have already been making the rounds, this one released yesterday of Winehouse singing ‘Back to Black’ after having just written the lyrics in a short, 2 to 3 hour span in New York in March 2006 (according to producer Mark Ronson in his voiceover on this clip) is particularly poignant.

If you could forget for a moment and strip away how her drug and alcohol abuse and her eating disorder all made her an easy target for the tabloid papers, what you were left with was a real human being who made some bad choices and didn’t find help in time. However you felt about Amy Winehouse as a person, what is eminently clear after her passing through clips like this is how great her singing talent really was. Watch the clip from the documentary below. Past articles on TGTF about Winehouse are this way.

Live Gig Video: SOAK performs ‘B a Nobody’ and ‘Blud’ in New York for La Blogotheque

By on Wednesday, 10th June 2015 at 4:00 pm

Back in March before she landed in Austin for SXSW 2015, SOAK (aka young Derry singer/songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson) filmed this pretty special live performance in New York City for French Web site La Blogotheque. Watch the arresting video below. ‘B a Nobody’ and ‘Blud’ feature prominently on the young lady’s debut album for Rough Trade Records, ‘Before We Forgot How to Dream’, which Carrie reviewed in late May.

You can see SOAK live this autumn in the UK, for the singer/songwriter has announced a massive UK tour for October and November 2015. Read all our past articles on SOAK here on TGTF through this link.

Live Gig Video: Glass Animals perform mega hit ‘Gooey’ on David Letterman

By on Friday, 27th February 2015 at 4:00 pm

The speed of Glass Animals‘ train doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. After sufficiently creeping us out last week with the new promo for ‘Black Mambo’ and the Oxford band’s most recent UK live appearance last Sunday at the 6Music Festival 2015 in Newcastle, they jetted back to the States.

In New York City, they played a one-off intimate show for fans on Tuesday night at the Box in the Lower East Side, which they then followed with this performance of their mega hit ‘Gooey’ on the venerated Ed Sullivan Theater stage for Late Night with David Letterman Wednesday. They brought their full jungle kit, which naturally host Dave couldn’t help but joke with the band’s Dave about needing some ferns for his digs. Watch it below.

Glass Animals‘ next UK tour begins Monday in Cambridge.

By on Monday, 17th November 2014 at 4:00 pm

The super soulful Sinkane will be starting a tour of England and Ireland tomorrow evening at Bristol Start the Bus. Ahead of that, he’s released this groovy video from a show he did last month in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right, which is turning out to be the venue where all indie UK artists end up playing the first time they’re in our country. Watch below as he and his crew perform ‘How We Be’ in front of a group of eager, dancing fans.

Sinkane’s album ‘Mean Love’ was released to critical acclaim back in September on City Slang.
