MP3 of the Day #855: Johnny Marr

By on Tuesday, 23rd September 2014 at 10:00 am

I love Johnny Marr, you love Johnny Marr. What’s not to love about the man, the legend. I mean, seriously, yeah?

Ahead of the release of his second solo album ‘Playland’ on the 6th of October on Warner Brothers, he’s giving away early taster single ‘Easy Money’ for free through Amazon UK. I don’t know when this free promotion ends, so while it’s still available for absolutely nothing, if you fancy it, grab it while you can.

MP3 of the Day #854: Cut Copy

By on Friday, 12th September 2014 at 10:00 am

God bless Cut Copy. We’re going to end the working week with a new remix of their brilliant single ‘Meet Me in a House of Love’, this time by The Miracles Club. It couldn’t be just a coincidence that their Facebook description reads “take shelter in the house of love”, eh? You can listen to and grab the mp3 for free below.

You can grab the TJANI remix of the single from this previous MP3 of the Day post.

MP3 of the Day #853: James Vincent McMorrow

By on Friday, 29th August 2014 at 10:00 am

Irish artist James Vincent McMorrow released the critically acclaimed ‘Post Tropical’ album in January, but since then, no new music from the singer/songwriter had emerged. Until this week. The press sheet for one-off song ‘When I Leave’ says it was written by McMorrow during the summer months of traveling, “on the floors of festival dressing rooms, in hotels, and whilst James waited for everyone to fall asleep in the back of the bus”. McMorrow explains further: “”hen I was in college, I’d go out a lot, but I wasn’t the guy that was the centre of everyone’s attention. But just because you’re standing in the corner, it doesn’t mean that you don’t love to dance. That’s what ‘When I Leave’ is about, I guess – dance like no one’s watching.”

Have a listen to the new song in the Soundcloud widget below. Like it? It’s yours for the taking absolutely free through this link. Catch McMorrow live at Shepherds Bush Empire on the 5th of October; tickets are on sale now.

MP3 of the Day #851: Black Rivers

By on Wednesday, 13th August 2014 at 10:00 am

As announced yesterday here on TGTF, Jez and Andy Williams of Doves have recently unveiled their new band project Black Rivers, having made their festival debut at Kendal Calling last month, which will be followed by an appearance next week at Belsonic Festival in Belfast on the 18th of August. They are further introducing their new sound with a free download of their “electro arpeggio” single ‘The Ship’, which can be all yours in exchange for adding your e-mail address to their mailing list by providing it in the widget below.

MP3 of the Day #850: Hidden Charms

By on Tuesday, 12th August 2014 at 10:00 am

In context of Northern laddish bands the Crookes and Frankie and the Heartstrings and more recently High Hazels, I suppose finding another band reworking the ’50s/’60s vibe to their advantage isn’t surprising. However, this band we’re offering up a free mp3 from this morning is neither Northern, nor do they play straight rock ‘n’ roll.

Enter Hidden Charms, a young (19-year olds) four-piece from London. Singer Vincent Davies (hmm, that surname’s interesting…) channels the memory of an early Mick Jagger or a young Eric Burdon, as heard in their song ‘Sunny Side’, which features a simplistic yet fatally catchy guitar melody. Listen to and grab the track for your very own below.
