Video of the Moment #1055: Heavyfeet and DRS

How better to start your weekend off right with a new single from Manchester DJ/production duo Heavyfeet and DRS? It’s called ‘Dirty & Stinking’ (yeah, I know, not a pretty title, is it?) and it’s out now on Black Butter Records/Spread Love with the song ‘Cosworth’ as its B-side. The song itself premiered on BBC 1Xtra last week.

Video of the Moment #693: Heavyfeet and Nate James

Just in time for the weekend is the new video for Heavyfeet (pictured above) and Nate James‘ ‘Back Foot’ (single out the 18th of March on dance label Champion Records). Effective use of animation with lyrics plus kung fu ninja moves make this promo as slick as the song itself. If these mad beats don’t get you in the mood for the dance floor, I think my friend you are hopeless. Have a fab weekend, folks!

MP3 of the Day #386: Dutch Uncles (Manchester : Remixed)

By on Wednesday, 24th August 2011 at 10:00 am

This interpretation of Dutch Uncles‘ ‘X-O’ might be my favourite of all the Heavyfeet versions (one of eight from varied Manchester based artists) from their Manchester : Remixed project. Er…it’s certainly one of my favourites…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

MP3 of the Day #373: Heavyfeet

By on Friday, 5th August 2011 at 10:00 am

Manchester DJ / production duo Heavyfeet like to keep themselves busy. They’ve been working all July and a little into this month on their Manchester : Remixed project (which you can read more about here; the fruits of their labours will be revealed shortly, so we are told!) and have also found time to release a new EP, called ‘Intimidating the Neighbors’, on Plant Music.

The duo self-describe this effort as containing their “favourite ingredients, forward thinking house beats, U.S. garage influenced melodies and percussion, and some heavier club focused bass and synth elements, to create this new, rather fun offering”. As a goodwill gesture, they are offering up the EP track ‘I Will’ as a free download. Let loose to this top tune – it is Friday, after all! Have a nice weekend, folks.

In the Post #74: Manchester : Remixed

By on Wednesday, 6th July 2011 at 12:00 pm

As briefly alluded to in this MP3 of the Day post 2 weeks ago, Manchester DJ / production duo Heavyfeet will be working on a special remix project during the entire month of July. At the time, we here at TGTF didn’t know which Manchester-based bands were participating in the project. But now we can announce them:

The Whip (whose album sampler I just reviewed)
I Am a Camera
Dutch Uncles (whose debut album ‘Cadenza’ I reviewed in April)
Santiago St. Machine
Kirsty Almeida
Airship
The Jessie Rose Trip
Spokes

The idea for the project came about from a conversation with a local landlord and music lover who had been there for the notorious days of Madchester in the late ’80s and early ’90s. And Heavyfeet’s thought was, why not build on the strengths of the strong Manchester music scene and merge their production talents with the gifts of their fellow Mancunian songwriters? So was born the “Manchester : Remixed” project, which will see Mike and James of Heavyfeet be hard at work all July on remixing a track from each of the above-named artists.

Want to keep up with their progress? Check back on the blog on their official Web site. On Sunday the 7th of August, an exclusive BBC Manchester / BBC Introducing programme featuring all eight of these remixes will be broadcast. After this broadcast, the remixes will be available for free download from Heavyfeet’s Web site and other great music blogs, including TGTF.

To get people excited about this project, Heavyfeet is giving away a brand new remix of the Delphic tune ‘Doubt’. It’s a high-energy, bouncier reinterpretation of a song that we’re all familiar with. Can you believe ‘Acolyte’ came out 17 months ago? Now, I’ve heard a lot of Delphic remixes, but this is really a refreshing version, with a great build-up to the vocal and a wicked summery groove that should get you up on your feet. Listen and download it below.
