Album Review:Goldie Lookin Chain – ASBO4LIFE

Goldie Lookin' ChainIf you don’t like crudeness or blatant causing of offense then look away now. Goldie Lookin Chain are certainly not afraid to say what they feel like and when it comes to their recent album ASBO4LIFE  there is no exception.  It has been a while since we’ve seen some fresh Goldie Lookin Chain material but the welsh boys are not slacking around. A big UK tour mainly in March is close by and after being ditched by their old record label Atlantic Records the band have done well to come up with an album as solid as this one.

It must be said that Goldie Lookin Chain are a controversial band and you either find their lyrics rude and offensive or witty and funny.  The new album is full of the usual topics like drugs, unemployment and DJ’s which of course have a GLC spin on them.  You can’t say the new record is consistent in sound and tone but it is consistently good and each song features different sounds.

Although being a music group, I for one don’t really listen to GLC for the inspirational melodies and rhythms. I think it is safe to say that it is all about the laughs and childish giggles that you break into when listening to a track.  The song “New Day” is one of the highlights on the album for me and features a piano as well as the GLC man choir which shows the bands ability to experiment. The debut single though “By any means necessary” is chirpy and infectious, again displaying the sustained quality that the lads have managed to create.

Goldie Lookin' ChainRemember Goldie Lookin’ Chain? Yes, the questionable quality Welsh rap group? Well, believe it or not, they’ve managed to make another album (probably) full of puns about your mother’s anatomy and ASBO culture. And to celebrate the release of “Asbo For Life”, they’re playing two dates later this month.

Tickets are on sale for the below two dates, priced at £10 a ticket.

Thursday 17th January – Cardiff Clwb Ifor Bach
Friday 18th January – Bristol Louisiana
