(Charity!) Teenage Cancer Trust Shows / March 2019

By on Tuesday, 11th December 2018 at 9:00 am

Last week while I was away, the Teenage Cancer Trust announced a slate of amazing benefit shows to take place in March 2019 at London Royal Albert Hall. Tickets went on sale last Friday, the 7th of December, so a good chunk of tickets are already gone, but don’t fret. There’s still time to pick up a ticket or two (maximum of four, please). On Monday, the 25th of March, Rudimental will be performing with main support Ghetts. Thursday the 28th of March sees perennial popsters Take That take to the RAH stage with special guests. Naturally (we are There Goes the Fear, after all), we’re most keen on the live re-emergence of Doves, who will be performing on Friday, the 29th of March, after being on indefinite hiatus since 2010. Irish (and my) favourites The Script (pictured at top) will follow on Saturday the 30th of March. To cap things off in style, Levellers will perform alongside the bands on their own curated bill on Sunday, the 31st of March. It’ll be an unforgettable week of music in London, and all for a very worthy cause. Check out Gigs and Tours’ available tickets for any or all of these shows through here.

Video of the Moment #500: Doves

Hitting video #500 at TGTF is a pretty big deal. I felt it only appropriate to post a Doves video for the momentous occasion. (You know why, yes?) But the band haven’t put out a new album since ‘Kingdom of Rust’, and I didn’t want to pull out just any video. Handily, the band’s official YouTube channel had a ‘Album Mega Mix’ in their video collection: basically a greatest hits of their videos. And what should be the first video featured? Why, ‘There Goes the Fear’, of course!

It feels a bit surreal writing this, as when I started as USA Editor for TGTF in 2009, I wouldn’t have dreamt that in 2011 I would be running TGTF as Editor. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who’s supported us over the years: the bands, their management, their PR and of course, the fans – you, our readers. We couldn’t have gotten to this place without you. Keep supporting your favourite bands: buy their music, buy their merch, see them gig. We need to keep real music alive.

And as one YouTube commenter posted about this collection, I would like to echo the sentiment…Manchester FTW. How odd that a girl who fell in love with the songs of Morrissey and the faraway city of Manchester nearly a decade ago would come round full circle with her heart firmly in the same place. It’s funny how fate works some times. To those who are meant to receive this message: to me you are a work of art. And you are loved.

Video of the Moment #258: Doves

Andalucia is a region of Spain with a rich history and culture. Equally rich is Doves‘s song of the same name, with Jimi Goodwin’s vocals and jangly guitars and its accompanying promo video. Profiling the region’s trademark flamenco dancing, this video doesn’t seem to have a lot to do with the Manchester trio’s song per se, but the cinematography’s great.

‘Andalucia’ is a new track on Doves’s recent compilation ‘The Best of Doves: The Space Between’ is available now. The band will begin a UK tour later this month.

Video of the Day #100: The Doves – There Goes The Fear

The Doves – There Goes The Fear

100 Videos of the Day. Wow. So, what would be a fitting “big 100” then? Well, I’ve dug up an oldie, the one that started it all. Doves’ There Goes The Fear, after which I named this blog about 2 years ago. Yes, the quality isn’t fabulous, but watch and enjoy a great song by a great band. Here’s to the next 100 videos.

Video of the Day #80: Doves – Winter Hill

I’ve been a big Doves fan for quite a while, and this is their (rather cool) new video for their forthcoming single, Winter Hill.

Watch and enjoy.
