By on Friday, 18th July 2014 at 10:00 am

Glaswegian synth poppers Prides have something very special for us this Friday morning. The trio have chosen to put their own spin on the Cyndi Lauper ’80s tearjerker classic ‘Time After Time’, deciding to take a stripped back route. Listen to the free download exclusively here on TGTF below and if you like it, you can take it home with you too.

The BBC at Glastonbury 2014 (Saturday): Midlake cover Bob Dylan’s ‘I Shall Be Released’ at the BBC Music Tepee

By on Sunday, 29th June 2014 at 1:00 am

Wherever you will be hanging your hat this weekend, whether you’re joining the sheep at Worthy Farm or you’ve got your feet up in front of the telly, us here at TGTF will have you covered when it comes to Glastonbury 2014. The dedicated people they are, the folks at the BBC will be working all hours during the festival and feeding us live coverage as it becomes available. What does this mean for you? We’ll be passing along all the best bits to you, our faithful readers.

It’s past midnight now and it’s time to chillax. The acoustic style of Midlake, who TGTF caught in April supporting Neil Finn, suits the aesthetics of the BBC Music Tepee to a T. So it makes perfect sense that their three-piece setup would stop by there Saturday before their appearance on the Other Stage. This special acoustic performance is their cover of Bob Dylan‘s ‘I Shall Be Released’. Watch it below. Then get some rest, because we’ll be up and at ’em early tomorrow morning with more videos!

The BBC at Glastonbury 2014 (Friday): Kaiser Chiefs cover ‘9 to 5’ at the BBC Music Tepee

We all know that Dolly Parton will be playing the Pyramid Stage. Okay, well this is definitely something I never saw coming. The BBC’s Tepee Tent today appears to be their mobile Live Lounge for covers at Worthy Farm, and Kaiser Chiefs stopped in today to do their version of Dolly’s classic ‘9 to 5’. (The band also made a surprise appearance on The Other Stage early this morning.) Watch their cover below.

MP3 of the Day #822: Prides

By on Monday, 21st April 2014 at 10:00 am

Those Prides boys have a dab hand when it comes to covers. Take a listen to their latest, a cover of Katy Perry‘s mega hit ‘Roar’. They turn an otherwise unpalatable top 40 song (to me, anyway)…into something great. Listen to and grab the song for your very own for absolutely nothing below.

Live Gig Video: Spring Offensive cover Drake’s ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’

Sometimes the best results come out of spontaneous activity. Such is the case with Oxford band Spring Offensive‘s impromptu decision to tackle Drake’s ‘Hold On, We’re Coming Home’ and film it last minute on their smartphones. I really like this cover. Watch it below.

Earlier this month, we posted the band’s latest promo video for ‘Bodylifting’, which you can watch here.

Live Gig Video: Bruce Springsteen covers Van Halen’s ‘Jump’ in Dallas at March Madness Fest

By on Monday, 7th April 2014 at 4:00 pm

Last week we posted this awesome cover of a Kanye West song by London’s Glass Animals while they were recently in Sydney, Australia, performing for triplej radio. Unfortunately, like all things in life, not all covers are created equal.

Bruce Springsteen has taken to doing covers at his live shows as of late and well, he is the Boss, and he can do what he wants, yeah? He was in Dallas this past weekend to perform at the March Madness Fest in Dallas, Texas, and he caught everyone off guard by doing this reinterpretation of Van Halen’s ‘Jump’. Say what you want about Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth, but I think you’ll agree the original is the way to go after feeling the discomfort of this cover. I suppose he felt that since it was a basketball-themed event, he had to come up with a cover that was peripherally related to the sport? Cringe. Watch it below.
