Video of the Moment #2140: Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve

Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve is the intriguing partnership between electronic heavyweights Erol Alkan and Richard Norris. They released their album ‘The Soft Bounce’ on the 1st of July on Phantasy, previously unveiling the video for ‘Creation’, starring the amazing vocal talents of Jane Weaver and Hannah Peel. Now, album track ‘Door to Tomorrow’, with guest vocals from Welsh singer/songwriter Euros Childs, has a promo of its own.

This is one of a series of videos for five tracks from the new Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve album. Knitted together, they stand together as a short film called And So to Sleep that had its premiere as part of the Everyman Cinema Music Festival at the Screen on the Green in Islington back in May. Here’s a soundbite from film director Kieran Evans:

We ended up shooting it like a short film over 2 days in a derelict mansion house in South London that a friend had recommended. An amazing cast and crew were assembled who went above and beyond the call of duty. Patient editors shaped and reshaped the cuts to fit the narrative logic and with the incredible support and belief from the production team at Bullion we finally realised our idea of shaping a short film around five incredible tracks from the Wizards brilliant album ‘The Soft Bounce’.

Have a watch and listen to the noir presentation of ‘Door to Tomorrow’ below. Beyond the Wizard’s debut album is out now.

Video of the Moment #2095: Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve

Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, comprising electronic artists Erol Alkan and Richard Norris, have just released the video for their latest track. ‘Creation’ is the second single from their new album ‘The Soft Bounce’ and features the vocal talents of Jane Weaver and Hannah Peel. Its accompanying video was created by director Kieran Evans and choreographer Alexandra Green. Evans explains the video as follows:

The track has a great twisted psych/calypso feel to it topped off with wonderful vocals from Jane Weaver, and I immediately started thinking about some kind of weird dream dance sequences that could fit the rhythm and tempo of the song. Drawing on strange music and dance numbers that appeared in a few French New Wave films from the 60s and the photography of Arthur Tress, we came up with the idea of seeing characters in an unusual space moving in a peculiar way whether it be a reversed movement or choreographed gesture.

If you’re as inspired by Jane Weaver’s magical vocals as Evans was, you can read our previous coverage of her right back here. ‘The Soft Bounce’, the new album from Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, is due for release on the 1st of July via Phantasy.
