Video of the Moment #2415: Everything Everything

The new Everything Everything album drops in 2 week’s time (oops, I mean, fortnight). This week, they’ve got a brand new single and its accompanying video to show off. ‘Desire’ is a great showcase for the band’s lush vocal harmonies, as well as frontman Jonathan Higgs’ falsetto. While one could argue we shouldn’t be surprised, I find it really surprising how they’ve changed up how they use rhythm – specifically, with a foot-stomping pattern ala Gary Glitter’s ‘Rock and Roll Part 2’ – to fuel the verse-driven parts of this song.

Of course, that doesn’t last too long: the choruses have an anthemic feel and intensity only Everything Everything can create. The buzzes of synths are pretty welcome too. It seems pretty obvious to me what Higgs’s words in the song mean, but he also helpfully provided the following soundbite about the lyrics: “A desire for something so strong you have to have it, and don’t care about the consequences of getting it. Only desire separates the living from the dead.” Too right. Watch the video for ‘Desire’ below. Catch our everything on Everything Everything here on TGTF through here.
