Video of the Moment #2366: Velvet Two Stripes

Scandinavian rock trio Velvet Two Stripes are set to release their 2nd EP, ahead of which they have put out the EP’s first single with a supporting video, and we at TGTF are here to tell you all about it. ‘Hey Boy’ is filled with everything that’s expected from a band dubbed on the press release as ‘the coolest Swiss band ever.’ Sonically, we’re met with a scorching guitar riff, pounding rhythm section and growling, visceral vocals, visually matched by a hectic music video, representing the trio’s riot grrrl mentality.

The promo video captures the lyrics in a literal sense by showing various items, including an animal skull and flowers, catching fire, melting and or exploding: a pyrotechnic frenzy set off by the lyric, “oh boy pull the trigger”. Captivating editing tricks, including the clever use of double exposure and bold overlapping colours, Velvet Two Stripes have created a menacing yet inviting visual effect that matches the music perfectly. ‘Hey Boy’ and the recent ‘Got Me Good’ EP are both out now on Snowhite Records.
