(SXSW 2015 flavoured!) Video of the Moment #1745: Tei Shi

Last November, Valerie Teicher aka Tei Shi released her single ‘See Me’, self-described as “like fishies swimming up a stream made of chocolate mousse.” (Read my review of the single here.) The single immediately preceding ‘See Me’, ‘Bassically’, received the honor of placing #1 on the Hype Machine, and now it has its own music video. Teicher explains the idea behind the promo:

I wanted the video to look like what the song sounds like – fun and empowering without taking itself too seriously. So we created a fun fictional comic world with a troop of bad ass girls.

‘Bassically’, which will feature on a new EP ‘Verde’ out 14 April in America, encapsulates what makes Tei Shi’s sound great: the great contrast of her dreamy vocals with thumping bass and synths shouldn’t work on paper, but oh it does, and does winningly. Watch the video below.
