Video of the Moment #905: The Killers

John wrote about the trailer for album ‘Battle Born’ previously, but here it is, the Killers‘s promo video for ‘Runaways’, the first single from their new album. Much has happened since the band’s last album, ‘Day and Age’: a brief solo stint by frontman Brandon Flowers, two side projects for drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Jr. (BIg Talk and Mt. Desolation, the latter with two members of Keane) and the band’s hiatus from touring, purportedly related to the passing of Flowers’ mother from cancer.

I like this video because even if you never liked the Killers from the beginning, the stark plainness of this video, coupled with the bombast of Flowers’ vocals (which, by the way, have never sounded better) and the sheer feelgoodness of the instrumentation, feel like the band have decided to reboot. Is Flowers through with the cockiness of his ‘Sam’s Town’ declaration that they’d made one of the best albums of this generation? Going back to basics and going sans feathers in this video seem to say yes. The Killers, as they were once meant to be, are back!
