Interview: Richard Judge of I Dream in Colour

“I was just about to go to bed and then my twitter went crazy! It was mad!” These were Richard Judge’s words on when his band I Dream in Colour’s music was featured on ‘Made in Chelsea’. Now TV time is usually a sought after commodity for bands. But Richard takes it all in stride. Was he impressed with the coverage though? “I was more baffled just by the weirdness of the program! It sounds like a pretty weird show.”

I Dream in Colour have had a year to remember this fateful moment and are finishing it off with a stint in the studio. “We ended up taking a little bit of time out just to do some new stuff, we just sat down wrote a load of new songs and now it seems like well our sound has changed. We’ve never been so excited about stuff that we have been doing, which is an amazing feeling, because it’s been a couple of years and we have done a couple of EPs.”

The anticipation in Judge’s voice is obvious; when speaking to him it’s obvious that he really believes what the band are doing at the moment is going to wow people.

While they hammer the rehearsal rooms, the positivity within the band is at an all time high. But with Richard working with his brother on a day to day basis the question will always be whether they Gallagher or Reid brothers? “We used to be more Gallagher and Mitchell brothers, we used to fight a lot more as kids in the band, but now he’s a lot calmer. The chemistry between us works.”

So, in this state of harmony I Dream in Colour seem now then to be heading for the dizzying heights they were billed for, the experiments so far in the studio have been interesting to say the least. But one thing’s for sure, if anyone can handle the pressure of their own expectations, let alone the presses, it’s these boys.

Special thanks to Jen and of course Richard himself for sorting this interview for us. I Dream in Colour is on tour in the UK starting next Wednesday in Bath; all the details of the tour are here. We just offered up a free IDIC mp3 on Tuesday that you can grab here. The band’s debut single, ‘Strangest Place’, will be released on the 5th of December on Euphonios; you can listen to the track below. The single will be backed by b-side ‘Still Got a Hold on Me’.
