Single Review: Funeral Suits – Health

Funeral Suits are an Irish trio that makes some pretty interesting-sounding music. Now, that description might sound like I’m trying to avoid putting the band in a box. And you would be right. There’s a gothic grandeur to the guitars in their upcoming single, ‘Health’, to be released on 26 September. The militant drumming, taken with a smarmily-delivered vocal, have more ‘swagger’ than the song that will never be named on TGTF, ever (you know which one…).
This band is already looking ahead: they have slots on the BBC Introducing stage at Reading/Leeds later this month, and they’ve already written and recorded their debut album with none other than legendary producer Stephen Street, who famously worked with Blur and Smiths back in the day. And it looks like the Dublin three-piece already have famous fans in Radio1’s Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens and 6music’s Steve Lamacq. Will they challenge White Lies in the dark, alt-rock genre? Only time will tell.
