Preview: Wychwood Festival 2011

There’s a growing number of ‘smaller’ festivals in the UK, some showcasing new bands you’ve never heard of and some playing host to the golden oldies. Wychwood Festival tries to find the middle ground between rock ‘n’ roll royalty and hotly tipped underground talent.

Held at Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire, Wychwood Festival brings three days of entertainment across the 3-5 June weekend. Headlining the extravaganza are britpop extraordinaires the Charlatans (pictured above), the Scottish and Irish rockers the Waterboys and the elegantly prog Ian Anderson plays Jethro Tull.

Also appearing across the weekend are other icons of Britpop such as the Bluetones (giving one of their few remaining live performances) and Cornershop, as well as up-and-coming London blues rockers Handshake and TGTF favourite Band to Watch Delta Maid.

As well as music, Wychwood Festival offers an array of comedy acts in association with eFestivals. The comedy stage is headlined by the wonderfully misanthropic Robin Ince (also known as the Musical Profiler for Steve Lamacq’s Drivetime 6music shows on Tuesday nights).

Weekend tickets for Wychwood Festival are £115 for adults, £90 for youth/concession, £55 for 10-15 year olds, £15 for 5-9 year olds and under 5s go free. Day tickets are also available, ranging from £53 to £37 per adult, depending on which day. For more information visit the the official Web site.

There is also a competition running until Saturday 14 May, where you can win a pair of tickets to this year’s festival. All you have to do is tell Wychwood Festival who you’d most like to see from their line-up and why. TO ENTER, YOU MUST VISIT THE WYCHWOOD FESTIVAL WEB SITE AND ENTER YOUR DETAILS THERE. DO NOT ENTER AT TGTF.

About Us

There Goes The Fear is where we tell you about the latest music, gigs, and tours we love and think you should too.

We love music that has its heart on its sleeve, tells a story, swims around our head all day or makes us dance like no-one's watching.

TGTF is edited by Mary Chang, who is based in Washington, DC. She is joined by writers in England, America and Ireland. It began as a UK music blog by Phil Singer in 2005.

All MP3s are posted with the permission of the artists or their representatives and are for sampling only. Like the music? Buy it.
