MP3 of the Day #261: Dutch Uncles

Dutch Uncles just released their new single ‘Fragrant’ yesterday (you can read my review of the single here) and it’s very good. I was tipped off to this remix of the song done by Novo League, and you can download it below. It’s really interesting because it’s much darker than the original, with electronic beats playing off singer Duncan Wallis’s normally free spirit vocals and turning them…a bit sinister? Even the piano sounds a bit macabre.

While we’re on the subject of the quintet from Marple, I can give you some news. The band will be playing their biggest headlining gig to date, a Now Wave show on 29 November at St. Phillips Church in Manchester. Their new album is nearly complete, so expect the release on Memphis Industries next spring. Says Wallis, “We have been a lot more ambitious with the upcoming album and our next step is to try and represent this live, we have already been touring a handful of the new material but we are looking forward to unleashing the rest.” Rumour has it that by a backing choir, strings, electronics, percussion, glockenspiels and marimbas will join the band’s usual live setup while on tour. Pretty exciting.
