Single Review: Tokyo Police Club – Bambi

Canadian indie rockers Tokyo Police Club are set to release a new single called ‘Bambi’ on 27th September 2010 through Memphis Industries. The song is taken from their most recent album, ‘Champ,’ released earlier this year. It may be short, coming in at under 3 minutes, but it makes every second count.

At the beginning of the track, the intermittent keys and guitar give you the sense of something bubbling or simmering, building up until it reaches its boiling point in the first verse. Breaking in with the fantastic opening line “I wanna tell you there’s a really good reason why I came home wasted in the middle of the night”, vocalist Dave Monks (who also takes on bass duty) has a deep voice that works really well when juxtaposed with the higher-pitched keyboard and guitar tones on the song. As NME said, it “bounces with frenzied guitar riffs, pitter-patter drum beats and saucer-eyed optimism”, and it’s a song you’ll have trouble taking off of repeat. Check out the video below.
