MP3 of the Day #211: Aerials Up

It’s summertime, mid-afternoon. The sun is out. You’re stuck in a smelly office with very little air circulation and fewer windows. Need to snap out of the post-lunch yawns? A relatively new band with a mind blowing tune is just your answer.

Dubbed Aeriels Up, the ten (make that mega) piece out of Glasgow have a fresh single, “Stay Awake”, that is both ridiculously catchy and gloriously fun. It all kicks off with a nice driving rhythm that soon explodes into a massive plume of folk, rock, soul, and other various highlights that hold this song so neatly together. The other bonus is that with all the seemingly chaos happening, the overall product is smooth, and happily not over the top.

Guitars, violin, choirs, cleverly designed harmonies and orchestral strings – it’s all in this three and a half minute track. It’s no wonder then that such a big tune is drawing some mighty reactions, from the likes of Paolo Nutini to Gary Lightbody.

Break out of that confined office space a little early today, and wrap your ears around this as you strut out, right on past those drowsy coworkers.
