Bands to Watch #182: Blonde Louis

I don’t know about you, but the word ‘Hertfordshire’ doesn’t mean much to me except ‘the Home Counties’. (Forgive me, but my knowledge of English geography is limited to the towns I’ve visited – read: where I’ve seen gigs in blighty, and I can count them on one hand.) Blonde Louis is a band that I heard before I saw what they looked like in promotional photos, and I’m kind of glad, because judging from their MySpace, they’re trying for the smouldering stare and a dark, part Horrors, part Teddy Boy look.

They look nothing like I expected from hearing ‘Sleep on the Floor’, their debut single released last week on iTunes. The guitar vibe in this song is fun, fresh and in your face, reminding me of Two Door Cinema Club, so really no wonder why I am digging this quartet’s sound. They’ve been described as ‘new young romantics’, which is the kind of thing a Duranie like me loves to hear. They also have got plenty of attitude that remind me of early Arctic Monkeys, yet more polished. Keep a eye on these lads. Their average age is 18 but amazingly, they sound like much more experienced.
