Video of the Moment #243: The Script

The Script is one of those lucky non-American bands to have been chosen for VH1 America’s ‘You Oughta Know’ feature. Basically, any band chosen for YOK are indie acts that are popular outside the U.S. and have their videos prefaced with a short interview with the band themselves, which is great promotion to set them apart for all the other videos that are shown on the station. The Irish pop/rock band must have made a good impression, as one of the band’s videos recently reached #1 on VH1’s Top 20 Music Video Countdown. Well done boys.

Last week (in honour of St. Patrick’s Day?), the band had a slew of American telly appearances, including morning talk shows ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ and ‘Today’, as well as an appearance on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’. Unable to find a recent live performance vid, I’m linking instead to the old-ish promo for ‘Before the Worst’, a song a very good friend of mine turned me on to, first, by the lyrics only. (Give me some lyrics and I’ll get to work on interpreting them.)

Name-dropping of Grafton Street and Guinness successfully evoke the Emerald Isle. And instrumentally, they sound a bit like Keane to me, just with more prominent guitars. Which makes me wonder, how the heck did I miss these guys completely?
