Video of the Moment #242: Pearl and the Puppets

Gorgeous brunette lass Katie Sutherland fronts Pearl and the Puppets, a poppy five-piece from Kirkintilloch, Scotland. Already championed on Steve Lamacq’s late night Radio2 programme on the ‘BBC Introducing…’ feature, I have a feeling this band is going to do well this year on the strength of their chirpy, happy sound. They will be supporting Danish pop band Alphabeat on a UK tour in April. I hope a full album is on the horizon soon. In the meantime, check out their MySpace for more sunny music.
It’s always a good sign when countries other than your native land take a shine to your music. Pearl and the Puppets’s song ‘Make Me Smile’ can be heard on a Orange mobile phone advert in Romania, and this song, ‘Because I Do’, is being used in Australia and New Zealand to plug Vodafone. Rather apt I think, as Katie’s pop-perfect yet fragile voice reminds me of Chairlift‘s Caroline Polachek (whose band’s song ‘Bruises’ was used by Apple to move iPods).
