Review: Ayah Marar – My Spy

Sometimes I get stuff in the post that I can’t stand.  Normally I don’t write about the stuff, but I’ve realised that this is probably counter productive…

Now, I must state that this is completely my own opinion – Ayah Marar is probably very talented (she sings the chorus on Jack Penate’s “Tonight’s Today” and “Be the One”), but I just don’t like her new song. It’s probably going to big huge in London, Birmingham, Manchester Leeds etc where life “on the streets” is hard, but frankly I don’t give a damn. With shockingly awful rhymes (“I spy / With my little eye / You see, he’s my little spy / Time after time, he misses a trick”), she’s trying too hard to knock MIA / Santagold / whoever is this week’s urban favourite, off of their pedastal.

We’ve had urban, Miss Marar, and frankly I don’t care for your brand of it going by this single. Go back to singing other people’s lyrics, okay?

2/10

My Spy is released on 6th July 2009 on 7″ and Digital

Totally disagree. maybe the lyrics of this one aren’t particularily strong, but who cares? – it sounds like a fun track.

Take care not to rule her our just yet – check out some of her other stuff – you might change your mind

Totally disagree with you myself. The lyrics are tongue in cheek and fun, check the other tracks and get to see her live and you will eat your words.

I LOVE this tune! It’s different and refreshing, not trying to be urban at all, I don’t think you get it!?

GO GIRL!

I guess it’s a cynical job being a reviewer, but personally – I disagree. It’s a fun song and she’s a great performer. Well worth seeing live.

Wow, That’s a strong opinion of which you are totally entitled to. Im not sure if you have seen Ayah Live and heard her other stuff but she really is one to look out for.

during the summer of ’09 i may have seen her perform atleast 15 times. never misses a note. always bubbly and very professional. If she continues on in the right path she will definitely be on to watch out for.

Like i said you are entitled to your opinion but in my opinion she is a little more than ‘probably talented’.
