Bands to Watch #58: The Virgins

The VirginsThe Virgins are a super cool four piece from New York, New York. Their dancefloor indie is beautifully tinged with soulful bass lines that certainly set them aside from the rest of the skinny-jeaned humdrum.

Basically, the band – who are continually compared to fellow NYC’ers The Strokes – are dead catchy. Awesome guitar riffs combined with the deliciously crafted bass lines I mentioned earlier mean you can’t help but want to groove to this American quartet. Tracks such as ‘She’s Expensive’ (complete with a genius bass solo), reveal The Virgins’ more poptastic, radio-friendly side – while tunes such as ‘One Week of Danger’ drop hints of gritty rock ‘n’ roll. The greatest thing about The Virgins, however, is the continual funk undertones of their music that wouldn’t be out of place in Howard Moon’s record collection. Believe me, this is a compliment!

The band – who have toured with Sonic Youth, Jet and have just finished a stint over here in the U.K with The Pigeon Detectives – release their self-titled album, The Virgins, next year in March. You can pre-order the CD over at Amazon, now.
