Random Aside #8

Found this today via Boing Boing, a very interesting piece about swearing in theatres, and its acceptability.

Now, I’ve never heard of “Mike Daisey” before, but he seems like a good, honest, down to earth sort of guy. The “Christian” group who walk out don’t seem that nice. I’m not going to go into a long rant about this sorta thing, but I feel if he wants to swear then he can. They were warned that there were “adult themes” and strong language, but seriously, its nothing too bad. He’s not actually having sex with Paris Hilton (as detailed on the video), he’s just merely talking about it.

Its one of the few things in recent months that has got me riled that this group of people can have the guts to stand up and walk out of a theatre production this guy has clearly put his life and soul into. I mean, if its crap and everyone knows it then perhaps its excusable. However, its not. critics loved it and audiences were growing.

Some people these days.
