Random Aside #3

This month’s Wired magazine bought to my attention the ingenius Cactus building in Rotterdam, pictured below. At first I thought it was, plain and simply, disgusting, but since then I’ve started liking it more and more, and see both the creativity, innovation and functionality of it: every floor gets a balcony, and sunlight, and the building looks different, yet not too ugly.

I think our architechts here in the UK could learn a thing of two from these guys who are willing to take a risk and cause strong opinions to be formed instead of just another “minimalist” design from Norman Foster and co.
