One of the bands of 2006 was Sigur Ros. Their impressive ethereal soundscapes wowed audiences across the world. However, another band that I found that is perhaps even more impressive is the amazing Trespassers William from Seattle.
With Anna-Lynne Williams’ gorgeous voice they somehow manage to take you to a place that’s far and away more beautiful than anywhere else you’ll ever have been. Combining Sigur Ros style building of music, along with Zero 7 throaty vocals, they create a sound that is both unique and still quite conventional. Perfect for that “post party” chill out, they’re probably one of those bands that, like The Shins, you’re able to convert people to, never to look back again.
They’re quite an underground phenomenon, having slowly gained themselves a small legion of fans. Mammoth Press summed it up perfectly:
Musically, the album covers you in chilly yet warm ambience of forlorn reflection. It is both quietly bracing and intelligent.
Their third album, Having, came out last year, and was one of my highlights of the year. Able to get you feeling just about every emotion under the sky, Trespassers William should be a part of everyone’s life at some point or another.
