Preview: Isle of Wight Festival 2009

Preview: Isle of Wight Festival 2009

Festival FansEarlier in the week we gave you a preview of Lovebox, a two day festival in London. However, whilst that’s all well and good for those of us who like our beds and a nice warm shower at the end of the day, some people like to get “back to nature”, and one of the best to do this at is the Isle of Wight Festival, which takes place on the 12th – 14th June in Seaclose Park, Isle of Wight.

Having just announced Neil Young as the last of their headliners for the main stage, this year’s festival looks set to continue to mix new rising talent with old-hands, with Neil heading up the rest of the as yet unannounced Sunday lineup. The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, The Ting Tings and Pendulum all open up the festival on Friday night, whilst Saturday is just as impressive with Stereophonics and Razorlight topping the bill.

The festival was only re-introduced in 2002 after a 32 year absence, after over 600,000 people attended the third festival in 1970, ending in chaos. Since coming back, the likes of David Bowie The Who, The Police and The Sex Pistols have all graced its stage, becoming one of the most successful festivals at combining young and old talent together.

In 2007 it was named “Best Major Festival” at the UK Festival awards, and looks set to go strength to strength over the coming years.

Tickets are on sale now, priced at £140 for a camping ticket and £120 for a non-camping ticket for the weekend.

Following on from last year’s amazing lineup, the Mencap Little Noise sessions are back again this November to raise more money for the mental disability charity.

The series of gigs at London’s Islington Union Chapel will take place over about 2 weeks, with more dates and artists to be announced

The charity’s ambassador, Jo Whiley, may be on maternity leave from her job at Radio 1, but she’s managed to get an incredible lineup to play. She commented: “Mencap’s Little Noise Sessions are a great opportunity to see big name bands play an acoustic gig in an intimate setting, whilst raising money for a really worthwhile cause.”

Fans wanting to buy tickets need to register on Mencapmusic.org.uk between October 1 and 16. All proceeds from ticket sales go to Mencap.
