Video of the Moment #2280: Real Estate

By on Thursday, 2nd February 2017 at 6:00 pm

Three years since their last album ‘Atlas’, American rockers Real Estate have announced their next album will be out in March. ‘In Mind’ will drop on the 17th of March on Domino Records. To support their upcoming release, the band from New Jersey have announced American and European tour dates that begin in April and run through June and smack dab into summer festival season. They’ve let loose a taster from the album in the form of ‘Darling’, the opening track of the forthcoming album. Its accompanying music video gives us a peek into their buttoned up live setup. Er, sort of. And I’d like to believe the palomino horse that has a cameo in this promo is named Darling. Ha. Watch the music video for ‘Darling’ below. It’s been a while since we’ve written about Real Estate on TGTF, but you’re welcome to take a walk through our previous coverage on the group through here.

Live Gig Video: learn to play along on guitar to new Real Estate track ‘Crime’

By on Monday, 24th February 2014 at 4:00 pm

Lyric videos are pretty common these days and are admittedly being used as an easy way out to present new songs. Brooklyn’s Real Estate could never be accused of being as lazy, and their latest promo video of sorts is evidence of this. They’ll be releasing a new album, ‘Atlas’, next Monday the 3rd of March on Domino Records, and ahead of the new effort dropping, they want to teach you how to play one of the new tracks, ‘Crime’, along with them. I don’t play guitar so I can’t say for sure, but I would think that anyone with a basic knowledge of guitar notes and chords will probably find this interesting and instructive. Follow along with the band on ‘Crime’ below.

Single Review: Real Estate – Easy

By on Friday, 20th January 2012 at 12:00 pm

If ever there were a more indie band name, then Real Estate it would be difficult to find. The name alone conjures an image of a group of tall, skinny, Topman clones gathered round there synths, playing guitars and generally looking a bit cross. And while Real Estate generally conforms to this most stereotypical of stereotypes, it is still worth mentioning that they do write fantastic music. Their debut album ‘Days’ has received favourable reviews from most outlets, while their self titled EP has also done favourably.

The Ridgewood, New Jersey band fronted by Martin Courtney are being marketed as kind of, a less annoying, pretentious version of the Drums and single ‘Easy’ is the epitome of their surf pop credentials. The gently twanging guitars and California rhythms of the song positively stink of Radio1 friendly indie pop, but with the pavements freezing and the glove ‘n’ hat brigade out in force, maybe some sunny day tunes are exactly what we need.

With only a few UK shows planned in the immediate future it seems the festival circuit is the inevitable gig location this summer for these New Jersey boys, so look out for these guys at a field near you this summer.
