MP3(s) of the Day #757: Trophy Wife

By on Friday, 7th June 2013 at 10:00 am

As I alluded to yesterday, Oxford’s ambitionless office disco purveyors Trophy Wife are calling it quits after a 5-day final tour next week. I’m really not pleased about this at all, but I have to say that they’re being extremely nice about their ending: they’re offering up their completed self-titled debut album on Bandcamp and you can name your price and download the entire album. If you’d prefer, you can stream the album track by track in the widget below. It’s a great achievement, I’m just so sad that’s the end of Trophy Wife. Best wishes guys, you’ve brought some truly lovely music to my ears in the last 3 years.

MP3 of the Day #756: White Lies

By on Wednesday, 5th June 2013 at 10:00 am

After drummer Jack Lawrence-Brown was baiting us for days, there is now new White Lies to savour. Track ‘Getting Even’ is, unmistakably, them. Harry McVeigh’s voice of doom still booms, there’s still a huge guitar sound on this track, with the underlying percussion mesmerising as always. Is the synth more prominent on this song? I think so. You can listen to and grab ‘Getting Even’ for free below.

We’ll see the fruits of their labour since ‘Ritual’ on third album ‘Big TV’, out on the 12th of August on Fiction Records.

MP3 of the Day #754: Camera Obscura

By on Friday, 31st May 2013 at 10:00 am

Traceyanne Campbell and her Camera Obscura‘s last album ‘My Maudlin Career’ was released in 2009. It feels like ages since we’ve had new material from them, but the wait is over. On Monday 3 June, they release ‘Desire Lines’ on 4AD. From the press shot above, it looks like they’ve changed keyboardists, and I’ve not gotten a chance to preview the new album, so I’m wondering what other changes are in store for us on the new release…

In the meantime though, you can download super catchy album track ‘Do It Again’ in exchange for your email address in the widget below, because Camera Obscura are such good people to offer it up for free. It’ll remind you of ‘Honey in the Sun’, just minus the horns.
