MP3 of the Day #778: Wild Combination

By on Monday, 19th August 2013 at 10:00 am

Wild Combination released an EP in earlier this month called ‘Pulses’ on Sweet Release Records. Now the band are offering up a free download of a new song, ‘Goodbye Drive’, on their official Web site in exchange for your address.

BBC 6music presenter had nothing but praise for the Chelmsford band when I interviewed him in May at this year’s Liverpool Sound City. And it’s easy to see…er…hear why in ‘Goodbye Drive': there is a sultriness to the vocals, but there’s also shimmery synths matched up with a grunge-y guitar. It shouldn’t work, but somehow it does. Stream the song in the widget below.

MP3 of the Day #777: Fenech-Soler

By on Friday, 16th August 2013 at 10:00 am

Dance band Fenech-Soler‘s forthcoming single ‘Last Forever’ – we featured it on this previous Video of the Moment post – has been remixed by Eagles for Hands. And it’s up for grabs for the price of absolutely nothing. Listen to and grab it for your very own from the Soundcloud widget below.

Catch the band on tour this November; for more details, go here. Their second album ‘Rituals’ will be released on the 16th of September.

MP3 of the Day #776: Colette

By on Friday, 9th August 2013 at 10:00 am

Colette releases her ‘When the Music’s Loud’ on her own Candy Talk Records on 27 August. You can grab our previous giveaway of the title track ‘When the Music’s Loud’ here. But today, we’ve got another free track for you from the album. Called ‘Best of Days’, it starts as blissfully as being stuck inside an ’80s video game, before the vocals start up and take the song to another plane entirely. Listen to and grab it for your very own below.

MP3 of the Day #775: The Veils

By on Thursday, 8th August 2013 at 10:00 am

Here’s something a little special to bring you out of your Thursday-induced stupor. The Veils have released this live version of 1952 pop ballad ‘You Belong to Me’ that the band recorded on a France Inter radio session earlier this year, and they’re offering it up as a free mp3. Listen to and download the song for zilch from the Soundcloud widget below.

The Veils’ fourth and current album, ‘Time Stays, We Go’, is out now.

MP3 of the Day (and more!) #774: NO CEREMONY///

By on Wednesday, 7th August 2013 at 10:00 am

Manchester’s NO CEREMONY///, who I spotted this year on day 2 of Liverpool Sound City, will release their self-titled debut album on the 2nd of September on their own label NOC. Ahead of the release, they want you to have a free mp3 on them.

‘FEELSOLOW’ has become a mainstay of their live festival performances as of late, and now you can listen to and grab the Kiki Balearic remix of the track below. Have a gander at the promo video with the original version of the song below too. Want to see the band live? We’ve included their October headline dates at the bottom of this post.

MP3 of the Day #773: Strangers

By on Tuesday, 6th August 2013 at 10:00 am

Strangers are giving away their new track ‘No Longer Lost’, featuring guest vocals from Charli Rouse. With echoes of the ’80s (yes!) and Depeche Mode (double yes!), it’s sexy and synthtastic. What else do you need to know? Stream the song below in the Soundcloud widget, but get it for your collection absolutely free in exchange for your email address on the band’s official Web site.
