Following on from the amazing lineups of the past two years, the Mencap Little Noise sessions are back again this November to raise more money for the mental disability charity.

The lineup is almost complete, with a string of pretty amazing performances scheduled. Personally, I’m most excited about Editors day, along with the pop-tastic Alexandra Burke, Mika and Newton Faulkner days – all of the shows have great talent and with the promise of special guests, I say you should hop on down to Union Chapel to check out some great music. Head on over to the Little Noise Sessions website for more answers to your questions.

Bombay Bicycle Club

Hot on the heels of their headlining spot on the NME Radar Tour this September and October, Golden Silvers are back with a new single, ‘Please Venus’, and a video to go with it. It’s no ‘True Romance’: this one is black-and-white themed, but it’s not without its moments of colour and humour. And the “bah bah bah“s will get into your head.

The ‘Please Venus’ single drops in the UK on 31 August.

Fresh from being announced as the headliners of NME’s Radar Tour later this year, this video for Golden Silvers‘ new song is amazing. Looking like it’s straight out of the 80’s, I love it.

BBC Sound of 2009 Part II

BBC Sound of 2009 Part II

Here’s the second part of my votes for BBC Sound of 2009. Part I is here.

2. Golden Silvers

Golden Silvers got kidnapped, had their straight up indie-pop sent to psychedelic boot camp where 60s radical drill sergeants beat big power into the rhythm sections. Whilst Mystery Jets assume a similar stance, they’ve left me bored on my feet. Golden Silvers and “Magic Touch” is a different beast: more smoke, more 80s keys where you need them.

Rarely is something British, extravagant, and glamorous without being held back by the retro chains strung around the neck. Let’s hope they can help hold of the power: big sounds are what we need. Subtlety is fine, just don’t end up being lacklustre. Please.

MP3: Golden Silvers – Magic Touch

3. Slow Club

I’ve been a big fan of the folk-pop crash band wallop of Slow Club for a long while, attending tons of shows. Here’s hoping that 2009 is their year. Tour-successes with Tilly and the Wall and Noah and The Whale continue to show that the Sheffield duo Charles and Rebecca offer fun, big songs, good feelings and tenderly strummed, feathered touched snare that in seconds become great blasts where you want to mouth along every song. You’ll want to take holidays, go ice-skating and have a massive huddle with these two-folksters: they inspire good times & tell good stories; combined with a fit of limb flailing, then delicate pauses optimism is what The Sound Of 2009 needs.

Golden Silvers may have more indie-cred to exchange, but for good sake, let’s hope that market crashes, quickly. Seeing so many surprised by Slow Club makes me confident in their continued ability to shine for audiences across the country next year. Catch them in London at Union Chapel, Monday night, £10.
