Please note: This weekend I'm at Hydro Connect Festival in Scotland. I'll be trying to post sporadic posts from my phone, however there will be no photos, and spelling and grammar may well go out of the window. In the mean time, why not have a look through our Archives and come Monday you'll have some nice eye candy (hopefully).
Taking a quick break from the usual live music news, something some of you may be interested in if you want a quiet night in over the next couple of nights. Current TV, a crowdsourced TV channel has a new season entitled “Tribes” beginning on Thursday 17th July until Sunday 20th July explores what and who make up tribes in today’s urban environments.
The press release goes on to talk more about the season:
Gone are the days of heredity or tribes of kinship - welcome to the colourful and buzzing world where people choose to bond over everything from shoes, to graffiti, who they like to date, how they like to dance or where they hang out. Spanning four nights, Tribe Season uncovers the coolest and most contemporary underground trends from around the globe while also investigating the issues that currently dominate our news agenda, from knife and gun crime to suicide pacts.
The four 90 minute programmes all look quite interesting, with the previews of the French dance craze being one of my personal favourites, so if you’re in over the next four nights why not catch it? You might enjoy it!
Catch Current TV on Sky Channel 193 or Virgin Channel 155.
Those nice PR people have offered us the chance for you, (yes, YOU!) to win tickets to see them on their current DJ tour around the UK, or for those of you in the USA for their upcoming tour. And if you don’t win tickets, you can watch some videos - all good, no? Enjoy!
Now, we all know that I go on and onand on about one of my favourite bands, Delays. They’ve already announced a new tour starting this Thursday in Wolverhampton, and now they’ve announced the release dates for their lead single and album release. “Everything’s The Rush” will be released on Monday 28th April around the UK, with lead single “Hooray” being out a week before on Monday 21st April. The album will be their first for Fiction records, and will hopefully be their breakthrough effort. There’s a preview of Hooray on their myspace page now, and their blog entry announcing their album dates is here.
Meanwhile, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. has a new album, “Searching For The Hows And Whys” out on 10th March. I knew that 21 year old Sam Duckworth had a new album out in the early half of this year, but not this soon, so this makes me very happy. The tracks are sounding good - get a free download of Find The Time here. The video is here for those of you that are a bit more visually inclined.
Finally, there’s been a lotof hype about R.E.M.’s return around the blogoshphere this week, with Accelerate being announced as arriving on 31st March here in the UK. First single “Supernatural Superserious” sounds pretty good - a return to their rocky roots, and a definite positive step forward from their rather weak “Around The Sun”.
Expect to hear a lot more about each of these three albums over the coming weeks here on There Goes The Fear.
I’ve mentioned it time and time again, but Delays are one of my favourite bands these days, and as news slowly leaks about their forthcoming EP and Album, I get more and more excited about it.
Radiohead, always ones to go against the grain of the music business, have announced a new album. And it’s out in just 10 days online, and about 2 months in the shops.
“In Rainbows” has 10 tracks, and is available online from 10th October, and in a discbox from 3rd December.
The band are also trialling the innovative idea that people choose how much they’re willing to pay for the album - you can have the digital download for free if you want. But you don’t get all of the extras that the full CD version gets. And it’s also not very fair.
Very good marketing lads. Great idea. I’ve ordered my copy - make sure you get yours too!
Some of you may remember that last Wednesday I went to see Envy Corps at Water Rats in London, however they had to cancel the show suddenly.
Well, news has since emerged as to why they had to cancel so abruptly: guitarist Brandon had suffered a stroke. Only 30, he is expected to make a full recovery.
Our thoughts are with him and his family… so unexpected.
Brace yourselves. You’re going to be hearing a lot about this band from me over the coming weeks and months. Delays, my favourite band, have announced details of a new album and EP that have been a year in the making.
“Everythings The Rush” is the new album which looks set to be released early 2008 and as a taster for the album a five track EP “Love Made Visible” will be released on October 22nd. The tracklisting looks promising - even the track names sound like they’ll be anthems already.
1. Love Made Visible
2. You See Colours
3. We Together Make A City
4. Love Made Visible (Torch Team remix)
5. Slow Burn.
There’s also an exclusive interview over at The Mag, which is full of suprises - as one person on the Delays forum mentioned, it’s all about “Elton John, Nudity & Watersports…” Trust me, its better than the mental images you’ve got in your head right now!
Things are heating up for Hard-Fi as they announce that they’ll be playing a special one off gig to celebrate their new album launch.
They’ll be playing Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street in London on Sunday 2nd/3rd September at midnight. The band will be performing live as well as signing copies of the brand new album “Once Upon A Time In The West” fresh from release.
To win tickets all you have to do is answer the below question:
What Balearic island did HARD-FI recently play?
Simply email in your full name, address and contact telephone number to competitions@atlanticrecords.co.uk - with the subject title ‘HARD-FI VIRGIN COMP’
I don’t know when the competition closes, but give it a go shortly and you’ll find out!
(As a hint, remember that they recently played Ibiza Rocks festival.)
No sooner than Mumm-Ra have announced an October tour than they go and cancel it.
In a statement on their mySpace they say:
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have decided to cancel our October tour.
Now this isn’t because we are splitting up or anything like that. We just feel that the extra 3 weeks we would have by not doing it will give us extra time to focus on writing the second album. We don’t want to be on of these bands who take 2-3 years to release their next album. That just isn’t us. We want a quick turn around. We want to spend the winter months of 07 in hibernation writing and demoing songs. Record the album in the first few months of 08 and be back on our stereos with some new tunes by the start of summer.
We will still be doing the gig in Bexhill on the 31st, and also the gig in Romford on 29th Sept. And possibly a date in london as well.
