MP3 of the Day #884: Pesky

Generally speaking, TGTF’s stable of bands is a kid-free zone. (Note that I said the bands, not the readers. I’m happy to be educating the next generation of music lovers, so if there’s anyone out there under 18, welcome!) Anyway, back to the purpose of this post to give away a free download on a Friday, because I’m betting that if you’re not at Glasto, you’re probably at school or work, whinging that you’re not at Worthy Farm. I have the antidote.

They might be very young – preteen to be exact, as its members are either 10, 11 or 12 years old – but Pesky, a band we know little about except the fact that they are quite a few years off from drinking age, has already scored their first major coup as a new act: they’ve signed to Fierce Panda Records and will be releasing their debut EP with the Panda in a few short weeks. We also know they’re from Ulverton, Cumbria, close to the Lake District, though since we’ve never featured a band from Cumbria on TGTF before (I don’t think?), I’m not sure if their location informs their sound or not. That’ll be a question for them further down the road…just like what my mind is questioning now: is the band name the pejorative adjective that has been thrown their way by negative people who don’t think young people can make real music? (I hope not. But at least from where I come from, the adjective ‘pesky’ is really only used to describe mosquitoes. Is it a term of endearment in the North West?)

For now, have a listen to lead EP track ‘Keep Me’ and its “shimmering shoegaze” style below. If you like it, you can also download it for free. We’re good to you, aren’t we?
