Hackney guitar pop band Flyte landed at #5 on our 10 for 2014 list this year, and we used this opportunity to send forth our TGTF Quickfire Questions to the up and coming band. Lead vocalist and guitarist Will Taylor kindly provided his answers, and read on to find what was the first song he ever wrote, which Smiths song makes him laugh and what album he reckons is the best album to let off steam to.

What song is your earliest musical memory?
‘Help’ – The Beatles. My Mum would get cross with me for how often I’d play that song. We had it on tape in the car.

What was your favourite song as a child?
‘If You Could Read My Mind’- Gordon Lightfoot. I wrote my own version of that song, it was sort of the first I ever wrote. I was 8.

What song makes you laugh?
‘Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others’ – The Smiths. Johnny Marr had recorded this wonderful piece of music, and Morrissey put these really throwaway, hilarious lyrics over the top. Apparently, Marr was annoyed.

What song makes you cry?
‘Into The Mystic’ – Van Morrison

What song reminds you of the first time you fell in love? (It’s up to you if you want this to be sweet, naughty, etc.)
‘Seeing Other People’ – Belle and Sebastian. I was 14 and confused.

What song makes you think of being upset / angry? (Example: maybe you heard it when you were angry with someone and it’s still with you, and/or something that calms you down when you’re upset, etc.)
‘Search And Destroy’ – Iggy and The Stooges. ‘Raw Power’, in general, is a fantastic album to let off steam to.

Which song (any song written in the last century) do you wish you’d written yourself?
‘Graceland’Paul Simon

Who is your favourite writer? (This can be a songwriter or ANY kind of writer.)
Paul Simon / Woody Allen

If you hadn’t become a singer/musician/songwriter/etc., what job do you think you’d be doing right now?
If I wasn’t doing music, I would be aspiring to write and direct feature films.

If God said you were allowed to bring only one album with you to Heaven, which would it be and why? (Sorry, but double albums do not count.)
‘Innervisions’ – Stevie Wonder

Thank you Will for answering our questions!
