Live Gig Video: The Heartbreaks perform an acoustic version of ‘Delay, Delay’ in Milan

The Heartbreaks recently appeared at Kendal Calling 2013; I couldn’t be there but our head photographer Martin was, so I asked him to catch the Morecambe band in action, as Martin had never seen them before. I was so pleased to learn that Martin had thoroughly enjoyed their performance, the band appreciating his 5/5 rating of their appearance in the Lake District: “@tgtf Thanks Martin Sharman. Five out of five. We won the festival.” Grin.
I’d met them in person in London back in May when they performed alongside headliners the Crookes at at their label Fierce Panda’s 19th birthday slamdown and they were kind enough to grant me this video interview. To say I was pleasantly overwhelmed by their charming demeanour and sweetness upon our first meeting is an understatement. See! There’s a reason I gravitate towards Northern boys!
The foursome are in Italy this week to appear at Lottorox Summer Festival, and they’ve shared this performance of their breakout hit ‘Delay, Delay’ in the lovely Piazza San Simpliciano filmed last month on a sunny afternoon in Milan. There’s a reason why the Heartbreaks call themselves a “male girl group from Morecambe”: they’re blessed with beautiful vocal harmony, on perfect display here. I’ll admit, it’s a little weird seeing bass player Deaks without his guitar but in this video, instead of his signature bass notes, he contributes atmospheric hand claps and a foot-tapped tambourine. Even an off camera dog barks in approval. Watch it below.
