Quickfire Questions #6: Danny O’Reilly of the Coronas

The Coronas are definitely one of my bands to watch in 2011. Having had the pleasure of seeing the band live last month, I asked lead singer/guitarist/keys man Danny O’Reilly if he’d be willing to answer our Quickfire Questions. He was!
1. What song is your earliest musical memory?
I remember dancing around to Michael Jackson’s Bad when I was about 5. I’m pretty sure my dance moves have gone downhill since then!
2. What was your favourite song as a child?
‘Wonderwall’ – Oasis. It was the first song I learnt how to play on the guitar and just loved it.
3. What song makes you laugh?
Any song by New Zealand comedy group Flight of the Conchords.
4. What song makes you cry?
Can’t think of any at the moment. I have been moved to tears by music at different stages in my life, but there’s no one song that makes me cry.
5. What song reminds you of the first time you fell in love? (It’s up to you if you want this to be sweet, naughty, etc.)
John Mayer – ‘Your Body is a Wonderland’, or else the Coronas – ‘The Joker’, which was the first proper love song I wrote about someone.
6. What song makes you think of being upset / angry? (Example: maybe you heard it when you were angry with someone and it’s still with you, and/or something that calms you down when you’re upset, etc.)
Again, none springs to mind!
7. Which song (any song written in the last century) do you wish you’d written yourself?
John Lennon – ‘Imagine’. Such a perfect lyric and beautiful, timeless song.
8. Who is your favourite writer? (This can be a songwriter or ANY kind of writer.)
Paul McCartney
9. If you hadn’t become a singer/musician/songwriter/etc., what job do you think you’d be doing right now?
I’m not sure really, I studied business in college but always wanted to do something in music. Maybe I’d be a marketer or something in advertising?
10. If God said you were allowed to bring only one album with you to Heaven, which would it be and why?
‘Rumours’ – Fleetwood Mac. It’s my favourite album, ever. It’s got three amazing songwriters (Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks) writing the best three songs of each of their careers. Then it’s got Mick Fleetwood and John McVie – the best bass and drums combination ever.
