Single Review: Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers

Sweden’s Lykke Li seems to be on everyone’s lips again, gearing up to release her second album ‘Wounded Rhymes’ in March. The latest? A new single called ‘I Follow Rivers’. Unlike the previous single ‘Get Some’, which frankly made me blush for the lines “I’m your prostitute / you’re gon’ get some” and its racy video, this one sounds more ‘Youth Novels’ than the previous one.
It’s suitably swirly with a heavy dance beat that made ‘A Little Bit’ and ‘I’m Good I’m Gone’ from her last release popular. And the virtually monochromatic video? It stars Swedish / Lebanese comedian Fares Fares, with Lykke Li ‘chasing’ him down like a predator. Seems to be the opposite of what’s going on in ‘Get Some’ but so far it’s getting rave reviews across the board. I’m liking it better than ‘Get Some’ – and the video is much more artistic than ‘Get Some”s, which just looks most videos on MTV these days.
8.5/10

The ‘I Follow Rivers’ single comes out, rather appropriately, on Valentine’s Day (14 February) in the UK.
