MP3 of the Day #228: I Dream in Colour

I Dream in Colour was a happy discovery for me while I sorted through TGTF email this past weekend. The Essex band released an EP in mid-July, ‘The Boiler Room’, and apparently they have been legging it around festivals this summer with their new songs, having wowed audiences at Camden Crawl, the Great Escape and Standon Calling.
Like Tom Cruise in ‘Jerry Maguire’ snagged Renee Zellweger, I Dream in Colour had me at ‘Get Along’. Unlike the collection of bands under the harmony / surf pop genre umbrella that seems to be ever ballooning by the minute, there is something tangibly genuine about this band’s sound. Maybe it is the girl in me that never got the chance to ride a horse, but listening to this track makes me feel like I’m rustling up the longhorn cattle in the Wild West. Note: I don’t generally like anything that sounds one bit country (and the epic guitars on this will definitely make you think country), so you know this must be a good track if it’s captured my imagination. I’m also a fan of singer/songwriter Richard Judge’s voice – that’s what a real man should sound like.
And if you’re curious what the blokes of I Dream in Colour look like, we also have a video for ‘Get Along’ that I’ve included below. I hope you are not disappointed that they don’t prowl the halls of recording studios with Stetsons and chaps and are just as home in a friend’s back garden in southwest London. (And okay, I admit it, I’m kind of spazzing over Steve Daniels’s Fender bass too but…)
