Bands to Watch #109: Color of Clouds

Color of Clouds are a charming indie-folk trio from Brooklyn, New York. The band is fronted by Kelli Scarr, formerly of electronica outfit Moonraker and the Americana-inspired Salt and Samovar. Scarr’s velvety smooth voice (often likened to ’1 2 3 4′ singer, Feist) perfectly mixes amongst the band’s serene instrumentation and ambient electro beats. Color of Clouds count Flaming Lips and Postal Service as just two of their influences, both of whom have been likened to the band’s music by past critics.
The band’s shiny sweet songs are co-written between Kelli and fellow Color of Clouds member, Dan Chen – who has also worked with American acoustic singer-songwriter, Nicole Atkins in the past. Meanwhile, Nate Greenberg, third and final member of Color of Clouds, brings his “finely tuned production and programming skills to the project”, completing this trio’s beautifully sunny sound (the band’s name practically sums up their pretty music).
‘The Look’, Color of Clouds’ debut E.P, will be released next month on Stuhr Records – Dan Chen’s personal label. The music on said E.P is already making waves, with the title-track being featured on popular American teen drama, One Tree Hill, last week over in the U.S. The band hope to have a full-length record out by the end of the year, and listening to the mini taster we’ve been offered through ‘The Look’ E.P, I’ll certainly be grabbing the complete album come it’s release.
