MP3 of the Day #16: Goldheart Assembly

Goldheart Assembly‘s Jamie Dale and John Herbert met whilst working as zookeepers at Whipsnade Zoo, and decided to split up their respective bands and start anew. Bonding over a shared love of Tom Waits, cheap red wine and The Band’s Last Waltz film, the duo recruited the rest of Goldheart (drummer Nicky Francis, keyboardist Jake Bowser and guitarists Dominic Keshavarz and Tom Hastings), mostly for their ability to sing Beach Boys-style harmonies.
All the stuff on their myspace has a great home-made feeling, which is in part down to lack of funds when recording their demos. A friend of a friend offered the band an unused house in Derbyshire to record in, however the house had no furniture and even less electricity, resulting in things like doors being used as drums… let’s see if you can spot them on their myspace!
Take a listen to the track below, or surf on over to their myspace to get a glimpse of a band that could well turn out to be a big force this year. They sound like they’ve taken a hint of the Beach Boys, a hint of the Beatles, a hint of Fleet Foxes and haven’t quite succeeded yet in being geniuses, but are well on the way to being 2009′s version of good things.
