Bands to watch #30: Twan Von Hovi

By Phil Singer on Thursday, 11th September 2008 at 3:50 pm

As some of you may have worked out, I’m a bit of a sucker for electronic beeps and bips. Now, following on from our profiles of The Good Natured, Magic Wands, Kyte and Yoav we’ve found Twan van Hovi, a quickly rising talent from Houston, Texas.

Mix together a bit of Postal Service, a smattering of Ladytron and Flaming Lips, and ultimately you end up with the might of Twan Von Hovi. Sounding like the bands above whilst sounding quite different, every track of his new album “After a Year” is different to the one before, and greater than the sum of all its parts.

The brains behind Twan Von Hovi, Anthony Heins, commented of his new album:

The title of the album “After a Year” is meant to symbolize the growth that can transpire during any period in ones life, and each song on the album is an element of that growth. For instance, “From My Heart to Yours” is about encouraging the people that you love to have hope for the future, “Addictionary” is a satirical look at overcoming drug addiction, and “Volumes and Volumes” is about letting go of everything and just being human for a while.

Still undecided as to wheather you’ll like Twan Von Hovi? Well, why not check out first track of the album, for free below.
